With the seventh season of the epic HBO hit "Game of Thrones" set for a 2017 premiere, rumors are swirling about what will happen to the upcoming battles for the Iron Throne.

It seems that speculations are even more rampant now since author George R.R. Martin has yet to complete the sixth book in "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga — the source material for the show — even after it has been surpassed by the television series.

For the first time, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will have to fill in the blanks and push forward with the show guided only with the information that the author has shared with them for the book's trajectory.

It is expected that for the upcoming season, the Mother of Dragons — Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) — will pay a visit to the Dragonpit, a cavernous ruin situated atop the hills of King's Landing. The Dragonpit is where the dragons were kept during the time of her father's rule.

This rumor actually makes sense because Daenerys was last seen rallying her troops to King's Landing after she was able to eliminate the Sons of the Harpy, the Masters of Meereen, and the Khalasars last season, freeing the slaves as well as the Dothraki with the aid of her dragons and loyal commanders Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman) and Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen).

The Mother of Dragons has also sealed her alliance with political advisers Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and Varys (Conleth Hill), as well as the Greyjoys Yara (Gemma Whelan) and Theon (Alfie Allen).

Speaking of Daario, Huisman did not give a straight answer as to what role he will play in the future journey to King's Landing since Daenerys has broken up with him and ordered him to stay in Meereen to take care of the kingdom the last time they spoke with each other.

Daenerys is expected to marry to strengthen her claim on the throne and she explained to Daario that she doesn't want to be burdened by their romantic connection when this happens.

Meanwhile, it is expected that when Daenerys finally reaches King's Landing, she will have to contend with Queen Cersei (Lena Headey), who also disposed of her enemies by blowing up the Sept on the expected day of her trial. She also lost her remaining child Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman) who jumped to his death after learning what happened to his wife Margaery (Natalie Dormer).
It is rumored that the two strong female characters will battle it out for the throne and that Cersei will perish in the faceoff given that she will also be facing an attack from Dorne.

But as with previous seasons, Cersei should never be counted out of the battle since her penchant for manipulations has proven her a force to be reckoned with.
